Elliott Brood – Sat. Oct. 1.

IMG_3007Come make a racket with an ACC favourite Oct. 1

Tickets available here

Formed in 2002, Elliott Brood (the name, a bastardized homage to the fem fatal character in the 1984 Baseball film The Natural) united teenage pals Sasso and Laforet over their grown-up love for Neil Young, The Band and the Flying Burrito Brothers. Pitkin was an accidental miracle: he fell into the group after working sound at one of their earliest concerts, offering to record their first EP. Tin Type was a college radio hit and soon this compact trio was making some big noise.  Sharing vocals and trading instruments – each of the band-members seems to play everything – Elliott Brood have become one of the premier acts in Canadian roots music.

Dan Edmonds

Dan Edmonds  will be opening the night up. This Hamilton neighbour of the Brood presents himself as a folkie with a tough, inner-city edge.

A member of the now disbanded Harlan Pepper Edmonds has undergone a stylistic shift and honed his clear-eyed and evocative storytelling skills.

Backing Edmonds will be drummer Jason Bhattacharya, bassist Brad Germain and lead guitarist Jimmy Hayes

Doors open at 7 p.m., Show starts at 8 p.m. Ticket are $30 in advance and $35 at the door.

Joel Plaskett – Sat. September 24 – SOLD OUT

photo_by_ingram-barss-1

Joel Plaskett makes a solo return to Avening on Saturday, September 24 with one of the most diverse and fan-pleasing albums of his career.  Proving that he can be all things to everybody, the rock veteran offers up a wide mix of styles on Joel Plaskett and the Park Avenue Sobriety Test. It touches on his solo acoustic side, his guitar rock work with the Emergency, his happy go-lucky rhyming talents, carefree memories of growing up in Nova Scotia, and a little bit of anger at the forces making life tougher these days. There are many moments that draw on previous classic Plaskett, from beloved albums such as Three and Ashtray Rock, right back to his Thrush Hermit days. And there are new sides to his sounds as well – Joel like you’ve never heard him.

Thanks to Curiosity House Books in Creemore you will also have a chance to meet Josh O’Kane Author of Nowhere with you: The east coast anthems of Joel Plaskett and Thrush Hermit. You can buy a book in advance when you purchase your tickets and it will be ready for pick up during a special signing at the store on September 24 or at the merch table before and after the show.

HAYDEN, A 20TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION OF EVERYTHING I LONG FOR

Tickets available here or at The Creemore Echo starting Friday, February 19 at 9 a.m.

HaydenEILFcovergold20 years ago the world was a different place. 1996 was when a songwriter could get picked up by a major label and have their album pressed to be shilled by the industry. This was when Hayden launch his inaugural recording.

So much has changed since then, but what remains is the “sparse arrangements and
earnest vocals” of this Canadian gem.  Get caught up in the nostalgia for a time of plaid and denim (oh – we still wear  plaid and denim) with this solo performance by Hayden at the ACC North.

Tickets $25 in advance available starting February 19 at 9 am online and at The Creemore Echo. Contact sara@creemore.com 705-466-9906.

Jason Collett – Saturday, March 5 SOLD OUT

Sorry, there are no more tickets available.

Sign up for our email list to get early information and reminders of upcoming shows.

We are thrilled to announce that Jason Collett will be at the Hall on Saturday, March 5 as part of his tour supporting his new album Song and Dance Man.

Tickets are available starting Friday, February 5 at The Creemore Echo and online. $25 in advance, $30 at the door if available. Service fees apply to credit card and online purchases.

Jason Collett’s sixth full-length album, finds the iconic singer-songwriter back at centre stage. Featuring the bright production touch of Bahamas’ Afie Jurvanen, “Song And Dance Man” covers the trials and triumphs of the modern musician with poignant poetry:

If you can tweet something brilliant, you got a marketing plan

“There’s a cool economy to Afie’s approach that lets the record breathe and allows it to say more with less, something I worked hard at hardly working at in writing the songs,” says Collett. “Keeping a light touch, keeping it short.”

Having spent the years since 2012’s Reckon finding himself further engaged in the growing success of his Basement Revue concert series – which Avening Hall was lucky to host in 2014 – the Toronto indie-troubadour describes this record as a liberating process distilled in a stretch of deep domestic reverie.

“I like writing songs and for the first time in my life I felt no rush to hustle them or myself out the door,” says Collett. “I let some dust settle, some weeds grow, putter about at home…”

The result is a dynamic addition to a strong body of work. Song And Dance Man may be Jason Collett’s finest effort yet –  back in the spotlight, more comfortable than ever in the guise of entertainer:

You got to do what you can when you’re a Song And Dance Man.

Collett will be backed by members of Zeus and will have a special guest with him during his appearance at Avening.

Tickets are $25 in advance. Available starting Friday, February 5

Hawksley Workman – Saturday, November 21

Hawksley Workman is taking his band on the road for the Winter Bird Tour and we are proud to be a stop along the way on Saturday, November 21. The tour is named for the song on Old Cheetah, an ode to freezing and thawing, one of the great Canadian metaphors for love and life. Get your tickets here!

Hawksley Workman is not aWinter Bird Tourfraid to be strange. After over a decade in the business, this hyper-prolific, perpetually restless creative force continues to push the boundaries of experience and the heights of his successes well outside the comfort zone. In fact, Hawksley Workman’s comfort zone is probably not all the comforting to most: it’s left of left field and nowhere near the beaten path. Call him a lone wolf, an odd duck or a strange bird; just don’t call him ordinary.

Old Cheetah ends a five-year hiatus from solo recordings. Since Hawksley last released an album, he has found himself back behind the drums with Mounties, an indie rock supergroup that gained considerable traction at alternative radio and capped off an impressive debut album run with the Emerging Artist of the Year award at the 2014 SiriusXM Indies. He also developed a one-man cabaret theatre performance called The God That Comes, which continues to draw rave reviews, sold out crowds, and international attention.

Hawksley’s touring career has seen him play nearly a thousand shows in over 15 countries. He’s headlined prestigious venues like Massey Hall in Toronto and The Olympia in Paris, as well as opening for heroes Morrissey, David Bowie, and The Cure.

Doors open at 7. Show starts at 8pm. Tickets $35 in advance and $40 at the door.
